The Redmon Vineyard was originally planted over 40 years ago with Cabernet Sauvignon grape vines from the classic era in Napa Valley. Originally cultivated as a dry farm, the Clone 6 vines were grafted onto a root system referred to as “root stock” named Saint George. This root stock is known to be resistant to a number of pests that have plagued the wine industry for decades. For 35 years this vineyard was dry farmed, meaning the watering was left all to mother nature. It thrived and, stressed from the dry growing conditions and it has produced award winning wines that were the result of small berries, thick skins, and concentrated fruit flavors. Today, Scott and Lisa are second generation grape growers that continue the tradition of quality, while modernizing the growing practice in the vineyard. While still following a water depravation approach, drip lines were added in 2005 in order to replace some of the older vines that had died out. With access to small amounts of water, the vineyards life has been extended by enabling replanting and soil cultivation practices that ensure sustainability for many years to come. |
