Take a good look at the "before shot" because Redmon Wines has big plans for renovation of the ranch house courtyard on Dowdell Lane.  We met with our favorite local designer this week and have come up with some great ideas for an outside entertaining area.

We're looking at outdoor couches, bar, fire pits on top a beautiful crushed granite floor.  Stay tuned for more information on the progress of this project.  We're hoping to have it finished by spring.

Redmon Wines is happy to announce that we are an official partner of The Harvest Inn.  This lodge is one of my favorite in the valley as it's one of St. Helena's first luxury hotels and brings back lots of fond memories of it's opening.

I was able to visit the hotel again last week to attend their annual Christmas party and was again taken by the warm environment.  The dark woods, rock fireplaces and rich colors create an amazing feel to the shared areas.  The room are also warm and inviting.  The accomodations at the back of their propetry with vineyard views are just a stones throw from the Redmon 3 1/2 acre vineyard from which we produce our Estate Cabernet.

As a partner, Redmon Wines is able to offer our customers preferred rates for this property.  If you are interested in booking a room, feel free to click on the link below to view this special pricing:

Happy Thanksgiving Weekend!!

Hope you had a wonderful turkey day and were able to celebrate with some Redmon wine.  We thought it would be fun to share with you a bit about what the Redmon/Mangelson family did over the long weekend - we picked olives for pressing.  If you have visited us in St. Helena, you might recall that we have 15 beautiful olive trees on our property.  We decided to harvest them for the first time this year and will press them next week to make olive oil.

Redmon Wines began as a home winemaking experiment in a garage 12 years ago. Similar to the wine project in those early years, we are just having some fun and learning about the process of making oil. Come see us in 2013 and we'll let you taste and give us your opinion on the oil.

Stay tuned for information about our 2012 Wood Gift Boxes. We will email out specifics next week.

Regards,

Scott and Lisa

We were lucky enough to have a visit and tasting last week with a local Napa Valley couple who owns and operates Woodhouse Chocolate in St. Helena (one of my all time favorites).  Steve, who spent a good part of his life in the wine business, gives a beautiful description of the Redmon Cabernet in his monthly newsletter along with some interesting suggestions on chocolate pairing:

"Of the wines we tried yesterday, our favorite to try with our chocolate was the estate: Redmon 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon, Redmon Vineyard, St. Helena, Napa Valley ($79). The aromas of the wine are redolent of dark cherry, blackberry and some chocolate, while the palate answers with a velvety vanilla and toast from the barrels as well as firm black cherry and boysenberry. A really beautifully made wine that was extremely chocolate friendly. Try it with our Thai Ginger (brings out the spiciness of the ginger and the fruit of the wine), Honey (round sweet/fruit character), Quatre Epices (mulled wine), Caramel Mousse, Cinnamon, Champagne Truffle and Rum Raisin."

Woodhouse is a "must visit" if you get to the St. Helena.  You can also order by calling:

800-966-3468 or emailing info@woodhousechocolate.com.

Redmon Wines is happy to announce that the newest releases of Redmon wines are available to ship next week as the weather is cooling in most states.  2009 was a near perfect growing season and our 2009 Cabernets are drinking beautifully as a result. The rich, concentrated flavors in these two Cabernets are a wonderful representation of Napa Valley at it's best.

The 2010 Chardonnay expresses the essence of Napa Valley's Carneros region with white fruits flavors of pear, peach, and lime creatively vinted as a crisp refreshing wine lightly balanced with a touch of oak and butter.  Perfect for the warm days of the fall season!

Redmon Wines is kicking off Spring with $1 shipping on all Chardonnay purchased through the end of May.  We are enjoying weather in the 90's this weekend in Napa Valley spurring plans for outdoor BBQ's, events and hopefully Chardonnay consumption in the next few months.

We'd like to share our excitement about the warm weather by offering this promotion and suggesting one our favorite spring/summer recipes that pairs beautifully with the 2009 Chardonnay.  I serve this as a first course to an outdoor meal.  It's cool, refreshing and brings out the flavors of the wine beautifully.  To order the wine click: www.redmonwines.com and use the code SHIP001.

Watermelon Salad Recipe

  • ½ medium seedless watermelon
  • 1 bunch fresh mint leaves, chopped
  • 1/3 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1/3 honey

Preparation:

  1. Slice the watermelon and remove the rind, trimming away the pale flesh adjacent to the rind, leaving only the sweet, bright red flesh.
  2. Cut the watermelon into large dice, or approximately ¾-inch cubes.
  3. Arrange the watermelon cubes on chilled plates.
  4. Combine the balsamic and honey in a saucepan and bring to a boil.  Reduce to low and simmer until it reduces to a thickened sauce.  Cool.
  5. Drizzle the watermelon with the reduction and top with mint leaves

We hope you enjoy this pairing as much as we do.
